What possibly could be better then Tiger King? How about a scripted version of Tiger King starred by Nicholas Cage? According to Variety, CBS announced an eight-episode series produced by CBS Television Studios and Imagine Television following the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.

Here is what we know:

  • This has been in the pipeline for a while. Apparently, CBS TV Studios optioned the article in June of 2019. So there was always a plan to bring Joe to the big screen. Dan Lagana, the mockumentary series ‘American Vandal’ Showrunner, will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer for the series.

The new series will tell the backstory. How did Joe become Joe Exotic? The new story will show the madness in the obsession of becoming a top-selling tiger park.

Nicholas Cage will be the star. The casting couldn't be better. This will mark Cage's first regular television role in his career. Other actors threw their hat in the ring for the part of Exotic, including Ed Norton and Dax Shepard. However, Exotic reportedly wanted Brad Pitt to play him.

So in short - yes we will be tuning in. In the meantime, we'll keep you updated on our social channels for new updates to the cast. Who knows - maybe they'll need background actors to play shoppers in the giftshop!
