CW - the network known to develop strong scripted series - is prepping a new spinoff from Greg Berlanti's DC Comics dramas, Black Lightning.

The series, Pankiller, will star Jordan Calloway (Riverdale) in which he'll step into the role of Khalil Payne. The pilot will be a backdoor pilot in which it'll air as the seventh episode in the upcoming fourth season of Black Lightning.

Developed by Salim Akil, the DC Comic characters were created by Eddie Newell and Tony Isabella. Additional crew includes Berlanti Productions president Sarah Schechter, and in-house producers Mara Brock Akil, Oz Scott and Pascal Verschooris.

In the backdoor pilot, Khalil is filled with the guilt of his troubled past from his former life in Freeland City as a killing machine named Painkiller. While attempting to put the past behind him, Khalil moves to Akashic Valley in seek of peace and new beginnings. Or at least those are his intentions...

In development news, Painkiller is the latest spinoff announcement for the 2021-22 pilot season. Ambitious about their spinoffs, this will be the first attempt at a spinoff from Black Lightning. The team behind this series is also the team behind hit CW network series like Nany Drew. The news comes after the company says goodbye to flagship show Supernatural.

TBD on background casting and supporting actor casting. Check back for updates!
